DESCRIPTION  
OF ROLE 

Responsible for the administration, performance and security of the Oracle and Postgres databases used within Nominet, you will proactively administer the database environments across multiple technologies to provide best-of-breed database support to the Nominet business. You will be required to deliver enhancements and projects in line with a technical roadmap across multiple database technologies and platforms.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Key Objectives are:  

• Motivate and manage a small team of database administrators while retaining a hands-on role. 

• Provision of high-quality databases to support Nominet business and IT teams  

• Management of RDBMS software, systems infrastructure and people to provide high quality service  

• Work with multiple RDBMS systems, technologies and platforms to create best of breed solutions  

• Monitor database efficiency and manage parameters to ensure optimum performance of registry systems.  

• Control access permissions and privileges to the databases  

• Work to Service Level Agreements to manage uptime and performance of both systems and services  

• Manage project activity and balance this with support and administration tasks  

• Work closely with the rest of Registry Engineering, Insights Team, and Operations teams to deliver key projects and processes  

• Be an effective, disciplined, self-starting and self-managing individual capable of hard work. Ensure the team has the right people, with the right skills are in the right roles to ensure effective delivery of key priorities for the team: 

• Proactively enable and empower our teams to deliver at their best through timely coaching and feedback 

• Role model a performance driven culture and process, In line with required timelines and processes  

• Proactively manage performance, conduct or capability cases

• High performance, universally available database service based on monitoring  

• Management of support workload to SLAs

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, BACKGROUND AND PROFILE 

• Expert knowledge of Oracle RDBMS. 

• Working knowledge of other database systems such as MySQL and SQLServer 

• Experience in migration between major database versions. 

• Experience in database replication technologies such as Oracle DataGuard and EDB Replication. 

• Experience in Upgrade lifecycle management 

• Capacity management planning 

• Database roadmap planning 

• Detailed knowledge of clustering and database replication, database indexing and index management. 

• Strong skills in SQL and knowledge of PLSQL. 

• Skills in backup, restores, performance tuning, database monitoring and security. 

• Working knowledge of RedHat Linux operating system.
