About the Team
Careem Grocery is on a mission to reinvent the way people shop for grocery, pharmacy and retail products. As an exciting new vertical within Careem (a startup within a startup), we’re in the early stages of building our product and have plenty of interesting and fundamental challenges to solve in order to achieve our ambitious growth goals in this burgeoning space.
About the Role
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll be responsible for driving our strategies on assortment by defining our selection by store and working with other teams on sourcing, pricing and promotions across our markets for Private Label categories. This is a unique role with the opportunity to create genuine impact for the lives of everyday people in our region. We’re looking for someone with solid experience in procuring and managing the entire supply chain of ultra fresh produces to ensure we provide the best quality products at the right price.
What you'll do
- Build and lead the private label line for Careem Groceries
- Design the go to market strategy for private label brands
- Work with the Category Managers on maintaining the selection strategy in alignment with the overall department & business strategy and requirements..
- Work with the Category Managers to identify the selection which need to be sourced within the private label project across the categories
- Identify and sourcing key consumer trends in online grocery /Q-commerce business
- Source & negotiate the required selection with the best prices, quality and minimum MOQ that meets the business objectives, and ensure a competitive commercial terms with the suppliers.
- Collaborate with the merchandising team to ensure the success of the launched campaigns.
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure the stock availability and smooth onboarding of the new added items.
- Collaborate with the pricing team in sourcing competitive prices to maintain the category profitability.
- Work closely with the supplier and maintain the relationship with them through business reviews and growth planning.
- Work with the category assistant to ensure the hygiene of the item's content and maintain the right visibility on the App
What you’ll need
Successful candidates will have a passionate commitment to improving the lives of people, an insane focus on excellence and customer centricity, and a strong alignment with our core values and purpose.

- At least 5+ years of experience in the grocery private label industry in Buying or Category Management . Time spent in tech or a start-up is a plus
- Experience negotiating with manufacturers, FMCGs or brand owners. You will be proactively reaching out to brands to build a partnership.
- You are an excellent communicator with strong influencing skills.
- You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and address something hands-on, you persevere when others fall away
- Analytical skills is a big plus
