Job Description

Staff Software Engineer at Checkout.com

As a Staff Engineer at Checkout.com in Financial Experiences, you will be providing expert technical leadership in the design of our cloud-based finance platform. You will help define the standards for our distributed architecture and work together with product and engineering leadership to define our technical and product roadmap. You are an expert in distributed systems and will act as a coach and mentor, providing technical leadership to the engineering teams.

Financial Experiences is a product/engineering pillar responsible for providing funds management capabilities for value stored on the Checkout.com platform. 

Qualifications

• Expert level experience in designing and managing large, scalable, high throughput, highly available and fault-tolerant systems
• Dealing with data on high volume in a high availability production systems
• Expert level experience in Cloud-based application development (we use AWS)
• Strong understanding of NoSQL database scaling and data modeling
• Solid understanding and appreciation for software design and architecture
• Fluent with SQL
• Strong knowledge and appreciation for software design and architecture
• Enthusiastic about delivery and experience working in a fast-paced agile environment
• Desire to work on an exciting product suite within a fast scaling technical business
• Excellent practical knowledge of OOP concepts and SOLID principles
• Excellent communication skills, ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with financial technology or financial services or is a plus

• You lead the technical direction of a product/engineering pillar by having a deep understanding of the needs of the organization around you. You influence this direction through a consensus based approach using your people leadership skills and technical expertise. You have a passion for designing and delivering high throughput distributed systems to solve critical business needs. 
• You take the long view towards the needs of the organization, seeing beyond the immediate requirements or timeframe. You are able to articulate this vision in a clear and concise manner that removes ambiguity.
• You are able to identify and proactively take steps to raise the engineering standards of the product engineering pillar. You influence this through coaching, teaching and mentoring. You are a role model for other engineers. 
• You have excellent communication skills and an ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• You have experience working on financial systems and a basic understanding of finance and treasury
• You have experience of building cloud-based solutions
