Job Descrption

Who are we?

Oxa is enabling the transition to self-driving vehicles through an initial focus on the most commercially advanced sector; the autonomous shuttling of goods and people. We are home to some of the world’s leading experts on autonomous vehicles, creating solutions such as Oxa Driver, equipping vehicles with full self-driving functionality; Oxa MetaDriver, using Generative AI to accelerate and assure the safety of deployments; and Oxa Hub, a set of cloud-based offerings for autonomous fleet management. Our technology is being deployed across the UK and the U.S, and we’re partnering with a fast-growing ecosystem of operators, vehicle OEMs and equipment makers serving autonomous transportation globally as it advances.

Based in Oxford, and with offices in Canada and the U.S, Oxa was founded in 2014 and is  growing rapidly (350+ ‘Oxbots’ to date). Our purpose is to change the way the Earth moves, through an uncompromising focus on safety, efficiency and explainability of our AI approaches. The company has attracted $225 million from leading investors so far, with $140 million raised in the last Series C funding round in January 2023.

Your role:

Joining our Scene Maker team, this is a pivotal opportunity for a Senior Engineer to focus on providing a complete but concise description of the world around an autonomous vehicle. Our team is part of the Localisation & Mapping stream which is responsible for generating a semantic understanding of the vehicle's local environment to allow for sound decision making. The Scene Maker team fuses data from both offline information from maps and online information from localisation, object detection/tracking and semantic classifications.

Your responsibilities:

Development

  • Designing, developing and delivering semantic understanding software, systems, products and tooling.
  • Discussions with the team on high level design decisions for various parts of our local scene building stack.
  • Prototyping or implementing and testing algorithms for improving our semantic understanding systems.
  • Working cross-functionally to coordinate with other teams to deliver new features.
  • Working with data from multiple sources (static and dynamic) and the synchronisation of that data.
  • Developing and testing our local scene API which is used by multiple other systems.
  • Performance analysis and optimisation of software to meet required real time constraints.

Leadership

  • Providing technical direction and advice for other members of the Scene Maker team.

  • A measured, scientific approach to building complex engineering systems

Extra kudos if you have:

  • The ability to understand and debug complex system interactions across a large codebase.
  • Work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
