JOB TITLE: Medical Laboratory Assistant (Histology)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Histology Lab Manager
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Laboratory Operations Director
LOCATION: Based at 24-32 Stephenson Way
HOURS: 37.5 hours a week, working one Saturday a month with an alternative day off in the week.
JOB SUMMARY: To be of assistance to all histology staff and assist in
the smooth running of the laboratory with particular reference to the cut
up room
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (Under supervision of Head MLA & BMS)
1. Sorting and booking in specimens in cut up
2. Assisting at cut up where necessary
3. Reagent change and daily maintenance of processors and
embedding machines
4. Make up solutions as necessary
5. Preparation of stock transport boxes for delivery
6. Carry out chuck out
7. Ensure Cut up room is clean
8. Carry out any other tasks deemed necessary to the department.
9. To rotate into the main laboratory on a regular basis and assist in
the routine duties
10.To help with NHS work if required
OTHER DUTIES:
Assist the couriers if necessary
Participate in an annual joint staff review
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
Biomedical Science related degree
Ability to manage his/her own time and tasks.
Ability to learn and implement techniques successfully.
Ability to work well with, and relate to others
Attention to detail
Basic user knowledge of I.T systems
Experience
Experience of Laboratory Information System
EXPERIENCE Experience in Laboratory work
Experience in histology setting
Knowledge
Understanding of company health and safety and confidentiality policies
Aptitude to follow company procedure
