About our Team
Heliyon, an all-science, open access journal that is part of the Cell Press family, seeks a Deputy Editorial Team Leader for a growing team in our Life Science division.
About the Role
This role involves recruiting, training, and managing an editorial team, supporting a scientific journal, and assisting the Editorial Team Leader. It offers skill development, collaboration, and exposure to the scientific community, along with potential career growth through various learning and development opportunities.
Responsibilities
Managing, recruiting and developing a team of Editorial Section Managers within the Life Science division
Being highly proficient, independent and up-to-date in the work that Editorial Section Managers perform. Helping to ensure manuscripts are moving quickly through the editorial system
Championing and leading key projects in the journal. Such as overseeing Heliyon’s correction process and improving our training and onboarding processes
Helping the team to support absences and balance workloads
Supporting the academic editors and internal staff in the editorial process. Being a point of contact for resolving queries of the team
Supporting the Editorial Team Leader in the management of the division
Requirements
Have a scientific background
Have existing management and (open access) publishing experience
Be enthusiastic, analytical and have exceptional attention to detail
Have excellent English language skills with a focus on building great relationships
Show creativity, have a willingness to experiment, and a desire to improve
Be able to adapt to manage an internal team, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and treat people professionally. Work equally well collaboratively or independently in a deadline-oriented environment
Be technically savvy and must be PC proficient with expertise working in Microsoft Office 365 suite (particularly Outlook and Excel)
