The Components business sits in the Energy sector and designs, manufactures and supplies state of the art low and medium voltage cable accessories that enables customers installation requirements.  Products we supply hold, join, terminate and protect our customers vital cable assets.  This role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work as part of our UK R&D team and experience the dynamics of a busy technical engineering environment.

What you will be doing?

A vacancy has arisen within our Components business for an accessories Development and Test Engineering Technician to ensure the continued development and testing of LV and MV accessories to meet the requirements of both the utility and industrial customers.  The position is responsible for the running of the busy Components laboratory.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan and manage the new product and type test programmes.
  • Run the laboratory low and high voltage electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Develop prototype products as part of the new product development process. Investigating any results and integrating with the team to meet customer requirements.
  • Design and develop prototype products for type approval to British and international standards. Produce type approval test reports for internal records and submission to customers.
  • Investigates customer product failures both on site and in the laboratory.
  • Provides support for product familiarization both at a customer’s site and in the Components laboratory.
  • Undertakes product evaluation of our competitors’ products and makes recommendation towards any necessary product development of Prysmian products.

  • Responsible for the safe running, procedures and electrical safety of the Components test laboratory
  • Provides training and supervision on laboratory test equipment to the team.
  • Manages the maintenance and calibration programmes of the laboratory test equipment and test equipment at our commercial partners premises.
  • Identifies areas of improvement in equipment and processes to optimise the efficiency and safety of the lab.

Who we are looking for

  • A degree in Electrical engineering or similar discipline.
  • Good practical skills within a laboratory or workshop environment.
  • Experience in a test or installation environment working with MV or HV cables would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge or experience of control systems and data logging would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills to assimilate and review technical data.
