Health and Safety Specialist (Located in Bishopstoke, SO50 - UK)

Overview

Reporting to and supporting the HSE Manager for the Bishopstoke Site, this role will establish, maintain and review training needs and structure as well as co-ordinating and driving training to ensure Manufacturing competencies are maintained and recorded. The role will also support the HSE Manager in providing a safe environment for production and continuous improvement for personal welfare .

Key tasks/Responsibilities

Safety and Environment:

  • Risk assessments – conduct new risk assessments for processes and review and update existing ones.
  • Assist teams in developing safe systems of work for new / existing processes to ensure the safe operation of equipment.
  • Assist in accident investigation processes
  • Complete workplace audits and implement corrective actions. Compile reports for the Management team if required
  • Produce and deliver presentations covering various HSE issues.
  • Working as part of a team or as an individual providing key support in delivering projects.
  • Provide support during internal / external audits.
  • Deliver workplace inductions for visitors, contractors and new starters
  • Assist in the development and delivery of Behavioural Safety initiatives
  • Assist in the site environmental management to include the compilation and management of site environmental data

Training:

  • Organise statutory HSE training programmes to ensure the company meets all statutory requirements.
  • Maintain area skills matrix's for all departments
  • Update current training files and produce new documents as required.
  • Monitor the progression of the training and provide the Management team with continuous updates of the current status.

What we expect from you

  • Solid experience conducting risk assessments, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Previous audit experience is advantageous
  • IOSH Managing Safely as a minimum (NEBOSH General Certificate would be advantageous)
  • Be prepared to undertake training as required to enable fulfilment of the job role
  • Sound understanding of COSHH and GHS
  • Computer literacy is essential, with good knowledge of Microsoft office packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A self-starter, proactive, prepared to take the initiative and work without direct supervision
  • Have a practical approach

Candidates should have experience working in a manufacturing environment and a willingness to learn and develop within this challenging role. Previous involvement in Health and Safety and / or training is essential.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and inter-personal skills together with strong organisational ability.  Tenacity and the drive to succeed are additional qualities required in this role plus the ability to work closely with the Site Management team to meet all goals concerning HSE.

This role is based in our offices near the Eastleigh town centre. The address is Prysmian Cables & Systems Limited, Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh, SO50 6YU. There are good transport links to Eastleigh and the site is approximately 15 minutes walk from the railway station. We are able to offer free car parking next to our offices.
