ADI’s Aerospace and Defense business unit has an open position for a Principal Power Design Engineer who will evaluate and develop power system architectures and designs in support of Electronic Warfare (EW), phased array radar, munitions, and tactical communications/datalink systems.  We are seeking a highly qualified, self-sufficient Power Engineer with expertise in the field of power supply design and test up to 10kV. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled and motivated to provide technical expertise to the specification, design, & test of custom power supply modules in support of our Aerospace & Defense customers. In this role, you will work closely with business development and an integrated product team to architect, design, and implement these systems covering a range of commercial, military, and aerospace applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of engineers on radar, EW, missile sensor, and communications programs from concept development through top level assembly, integration, test, and debug
  • Power systems definition, analysis, and requirements engineering
  • Perform power system design, simulation, and modeling
  • Frequent interaction and communication with key customers
  • Technically coordinate a cross-functional team to develop test solutions ensuring all products meet allocated requirements including safety
  • Work as part of an integrated product team to define system and unit level requirements while validating test plans and procedures
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate with peers, managers, and project stakeholders effectively using both verbal and written communications

Skills and Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • M.S or B.S. in a science or engineering degree with 12+ years’ experience; emphasis in Electrical/Power engineering or related field
  • Power Supply Architecture Design
  • >1KW Design experience
    • High current design
  • Strong background in power conversion and distribution concepts, including:
  • EMI/EMC and filter design
  • Multi-Phase Supply Design
  • Grounding
  • Thermal Design
  • Magnetic design
  • High frequency power supply switching
  • Intimate knowledge of Buck, Boost, Buck Boost, Flyback and Forward Topologies
  • Resonant or quasi-resonant switching
  • Familiar with Power Integrity Design Tools
  • Production test and DVT validation planning
  • Component selection, schematic entry, and PCB design
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
  • Ability and willingness to lead and mentor a team.

Desired Experience:

  • Micro-controller based digital power supply control.  Prefer ADI products such as the ADP1055 family, but competing products such as STM32 are acceptable.
  • High voltage & high power (up to 10kV / 1kW) power supply design and safety
