The opportunity:
We have a great new opportunity for a Head of Sales (Tax) to join the Markel Tax team. Markel Tax is a leading provider of fee protection insurance and tax consultancy services in the UK. Collaborating with over 2,500 accountancy practices, we are dedicated to supporting growth and safeguarding clients’ interests. Our dynamic team of 60+ professionals, based in Rugby and Sheffield, is part of the broader Markel UK family, combining nimbleness and innovation with the strength of corporate backing.
As the Head of Sales, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Markel Tax. This role demands a blend of critical thinking and hands-on execution, focusing on driving long-term growth and maintaining excellent service standards. You will be at the forefront of developing growth strategies, managing key client relationships, and leading a successful sales team. The role will include hybrid/remote working with weekly visits to either our Sheffield or Rugby offices.
What you’ll be doing:
Collaborate with the Divisional Director to set and implement strategic goals for products and services, driving long-term financial growth
Identify and capitalise on revenue-generating opportunities, including new client acquisition and service expansion
Oversee the sales team (12 FTE), establishing a robust management structure and training programme to support their success and drive sales outcomes
Integrate the distribution of insurance and tax consultancy services for seamless delivery to accountancy practices
Lead strategic customer relationship activities, ensuring high-quality engagement and client satisfaction
Work with the newly appointed Customer Experience and Sales Operations Manager role to ensure alignment between sales operations and overall sales strategies
Direct marketing efforts, aligning them with sales strategies to improve reach and impact
Analyse revenue targets, making data-driven recommendations for optimisation
Spearhead tender submissions and manage new business initiatives
Provide project oversight for ongoing revenue-generating projects
Uphold professional standards and practices, ensuring continuous improvement
Conduct performance appraisals, fostering training and development within the team
Our must-haves:
Proven experience in sales leadership, preferably within the tax or accountancy sector but all professional services sectors will be considered
Strong commercial skills and forward-thinking approach
Demonstrated ability in forward planning and execution
Excellent leadership qualities, with the ability to inspire and guide a successful team
Degree-level education, preferably in a related field is desirable
Track record of success in sales and business development
Good interpersonal skills with an interest in building and nurturing successful business relationships
Ability to contribute to broader business strategy and challenge norms when necessary
Commitment to innovation and adaptability in a rapidly changing industry
