The opportunity:
We have an excellent opportunity for a Head of Legal Practice (Partner) to join our team at Markel Law in our Manchester office. We will consider our Leeds office with some weekly travel to Manchester included. Markel Law LLP (Markel Law) is an independent SRA authorised and regulated legal business offering services to both insured and non-insured clients. Our clients and business partners comprise businesses, high net worth individuals, and associations across a broad spectrum of industries. We operate out of offices in Manchester, Leeds, London and Croydon and employ over 60 specialist solicitors. Our legal teams guide, support, defend and protect clients through a wide range of key legal services.
What you’ll be doing:
Strategic Leadership:
Work with the Claims & Legal Services Director in the development of the firm's strategic vision and long-term goals
Take ownership of, implement and drive forward initiatives that support the form’s strategic vision
Provide leadership and guidance to the Partners and management team in alignment with the firm's values and objectives
Operational Excellence:
Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure the highest levels of client-centric service delivery
Implement best practices to enhance operational processes and work flows
Continually push for efficiency & improved effectiveness
Financial Management:
Work closely with the finance team, manage the firm's financial performance and budget
Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost optimisation
Client and Stakeholder Relations:
Foster strong relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders
Build unparalleled linkup between Markel Law and Markel the insurer
Enhance the firm's reputation and brand within the insurance and legal community
Team Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Partners and senior leaders
Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment
Foster a culture of excellence and customer-centric service
Our must haves:
The ability to manage technical specialists without necessarily having that technical specialism / legal experience is not essential as would look at a CFO or COO applicant
Experience in leading independently and taking responsibility for decisions made to improve the team and business offering
A background working in legal, accounting, insurance or professional services as a Managing Director, Head of Operations, COO or Financial Director
A demonstrable ability to develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
A demonstrable ability to lead and manage senior individuals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Significant experience in driving a business towards its long term goals
