HVAC Layout Engineer

The Opportunity...
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) established in 2023, is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. Therefore, a Technical Directorate is being created, responsible for the engineering disciplines and technical expertise required to deliver the different engineering projects through integrated teams in EPR-E.
For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.
As an HVAC Layout Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the design of building projects. You will be analysing data for layout engineering, implementing mechanical and HVAC equipment, and ensuring consistency between diagrams and 3D models. You’ll be overseeing the production of technical documents and coordinating layout activities, while managing modifications, anticipating technical challenges, and supporting execution design companies in deliverable production.

What you’ll be doing…
- Inputting data for layout engineering of building projects, including process & instrumentation diagrams, equipment data, cable lists, and electrical load lists, ensuring technical consistency.
- Engaging in layout engineering activities to enhance and modify designs, such as incorporating mechanical and HVAC equipment into building designs.
- Utilising CAD software to route HVAC ducts, pipework, and electrical cable trays in 3D models, collaborating with a dedicated CAD team.
- Ensuring alignment between process & instrumentation diagrams and 3D models for design consistency.
- Generating technical documents including progress reports, status reports, equipment introduction notes, and design procedures.
- Coordinating layout activities, issuing layout drawings to various teams and enforcing compliance with layout rules.
- Monitoring progress and managing changes, addressing modifications requested by engineering teams, anticipating technical challenges, and preparing layout engineering reviews with all involved teams.
- Providing support to execution design companies in the production of deliverables for manufacturing processes.
Who you are…
Your background may include some of the following:
- Experience in one or several engineering areas: HVAC Layout, HVAC, mechanical, safety.
- Degree qualified in an appropriate technical discipline.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of HVAC and general layout rules for industrial projects.
- Familiarity with the operation of nuclear power stations and associated safety aspects, including flooding, fire, radiological protection, and high-energy line ruptures.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders to resolve issues and find pragmatic solutions.
- Thrives in a challenging technical environment with multiple and urgent demands.
- Capable of seeking clarification from multiple stakeholders to prioritise tasks, considering the wider context and broader implications to minimise schedule and cost impacts.
