Position Objective(s):

  • The Deputy Manager will assist the Senior Maintenance Manager in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the daily operation and maintenance of the GO Transit/UP Express fleet of vehicles.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for assisting with the performance and supervision of the shop team
  • Provide guidance and coaching to Supervisors and Managers
  • Schedule and attend regular meetings with managers, supervisors, employees, and the customer.
  • Ensure trends in performance are tracked for both safety and production using established KPI for the site.

 

  • Advise staff on technical and operational matters;
  • Coordinate or assist with investigations for customer issues regarding equipment maintenance;
  • Coordinate or assist with completion of special projects as required;
  • Provide investigation reports and resolution to the SR management team;
  • Assist with preparation and expenditures of the department’s annual budget;
  • Interpret and provide guidance to staff regarding collective agreement.

 

 

 

RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Participates in the performance evaluation and succession planning of personnel;
  • Monitors departmental and company KPIs and ensures that targets are met or exceeded.

 

 

Skill factors - Education/ Experience

  • 5 years+ of management responsibility in a manufacturing or maintenance environment;
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance, work order, lean methodology and scheduling techniques;
  • Ability to read and interpret a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff;
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written skills;
  • Knowledge of working procedures and techniques utilized in the trade area;
  • Strong interpersonal skills for the training and coaching activities;
  • Working knowledge of MS office package
