The role
As our Senior Engineering Manager (Ship Building), you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll lead teams and provide technical governance across all engineering and technical activities within the assigned project(s) to ensure the technical solution, meets the customer’s requirement and that the technical risks are managed. 

 

Day to day, you’ll:
•    Provide technical authority responsibility for platform design in accordance with the Design Authority principles
•    Manage stakeholders, to ensure delivery of outputs is in accordance with the project plan and to the contract’s quality standards also liaising with external certification and regulatory bodies
•    Be the Independent reviewer of the technical development of the design and assisting in resolving technical issues
•    Ensuring the design and supplier’s equipment meets the contract requirements and lead design reviews
•    Take a lead role in the review, maintenance, and upkeep of quality assurance documentation


This role is full time and consists of 36 working hours a week. The role can be based out of Bristol, Devonport or Rosyth and there will be flexibility to work remotely when appropriate. We have a hybrid working model and would expect the successful candidate to be on site 1 to 2 days a week. There will also be requirements to travel Internationally to Denmark approximately a few days a week every 3 weeks or so. 

 

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

 

Essential Experience of the Senior Engineering Manager (Ship Building):
•    Proven Naval Surface Ships shipbuilding Wholeship multi-discipline knowledge and experience – would consider Submarine or Commercial Ship Building experience too
•    Ability to be flexible and mindful of cultural differences when managing the international customers


Qualifications for the Senior Engineering Manager (Ship Building):
•    Chartered Engineer OR Engineering degree OR comparable academic standard, in relevant discipline 
•    Association of Project Management (APM) Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve BPSS security clearance for this role.
