At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Project Engineer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role
As a Project Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll support the performance of a key department within Devonport, which have a large contribution to the through-life support for submarines, and associated systems and equipment as part of a continuing commitment to support our nation's naval capability.

Day to day, you’ll provide project engineering support to the Operations and Maintenance teams, specifically to coordinate and lead the planning and readiness activities for planned and reactive maintenance activities.

  • Arrange and coordinate the readiness activities that enable the delivery of planned and corrective maintenance – put in place what’s needed to deliver maintenance safely and efficiently on assets and facilities.
  • Support reactive, unplanned maintenance and repair activities and be prepared to lead on the required actions or actively support them.
  • Attend or lead maintenance readiness planning meetings, compile and present status reports, and provide accurate updates for the work you’re leading.
  • Arrange and coordinate the readiness activities that enable the movement of mobile assets that support maintenance of Royal Naval vessels.
  • Act as technical representative on site, coordinating resources and making things happen, surveying assets to determine requirements or to escort sub-contractors and or visitors

This role is full time, 36 hours based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

Essential experience of the Project Engineer:

  • Experience within a maintenance or repair organisation working with complex assets, plant, and equipment.
  • Experience of planning activities for the delivery of a service or product and coordinating the readiness of requirements.
  • Previous experience working within a regulated environment where working within defined operating procedures is a requirement.
  • Competent Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) user with a capability to learn other job-related software.
  • Experienced communicator with the ability to present and liaise with various stakeholders both internal and external to the business.
  • Self-motivated, ‘will-do’ attitude, adaptable and willing to learn and be challenged.

Qualifications for the Project Engineer:

  • NVQ Level 3 / ONC in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management qualifications and or experience would be beneficial but full training will be provided.
