The Geologist Sr - SMB for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Geology team at the company’s Houston office reporting to the Geology Director.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
• Provide geoscience support for planning and execution of horizontal developments within the Permian basin in consideration of both state and federal regulatory guidelines
• Identify, map and mature development opportunities
• Initiate and progress characterization of unconventional reservoirs, with emphasis on source rock quality, hydrocarbon volume in place, and geomechanics through integration of seismic, well log, and core data into static geologic models
• Work with an integrated team to generate hypothesis on Geological properties and ties to performance variance. Construct materials to technically assure causal relationships that support an accurate training subset in consideration of geologic variance
• Plan and monitor integrated data collection initiatives such as: core extraction, wireline pilots, horizontal logging campaigns, fiber, microseismic, oil fingerprinting, and interference testing
• Identify critical uncertainties within the geologic model, and characterize geologic hazards that may impede successful execution of the development plan
• Survey and council business unit on competitor activity and initiate data trades when accretive to de-risking development proposals
• Lead interdisciplinary team in constructing materials to support FID initiatives for development proposals
• Monitor and advise on geologic relationships affecting development optimization concerning wellbore stability, ROP optimization, and completions variance
• Support broader business development initiatives in the basin through interdisciplinary screening, inventory risking, and assessment
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
• 8-12 years of industry experience with a relevant MSc or higher geoscience degree
• At least 5 years working experience in unconventional plays in the Permian Basin
• Advanced Petrel geologic interpretation skills using wireline logs
• Advanced geocellular modelling skills using Petrel
• Experience with petrophysics, geomechanics and petroleum systems data and interpretation
• Experience in Business Development (Acquisitions and Divestments) activities
