The Role

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Development Manager to join our Corporate team to lead, drive and advise on business development activity across the Corporate practice. The role will focus on developing opportunities arising from the combination of our strengths as a full-service law firm and our leading reputation. The role will help shape our response to market changes, track trends and leverage developments to provide a platform for the practice to leverage, grow our brand, and win new clients. The emphasis will be on client pursuit and client acquisition, in addition to generating compelling campaigns and taking these to market. 

 

The Corporate BD team consists of a Senior BD Manager, BD Manager, and a Junior Business Development Executive.

 

The role can be based on a hybrid basis from any of our UK offices - London, Milton Keynes, Glasgow or Edinburgh; in addition to Dublin, or on a remote basis in the UK or Ireland. 

 


Key duties & responsibilities

 

Winning Work

 

  • Proposals and RFPs: Lead and execute the sales pipeline for Corporate, ensuring efficient and effective coordination; adding value to content through clever and commercial ideas; working closely and collaborating with other team members and wider business services teams where needed.
  • Ensure follow up / client feedback is obtained post pitch; track and act on actions which arise.
  • Act as an ambassador for bid best practice to ensure understanding and compliance of bid process.
  • Providing support to key corporate clients, identifying and channeling opportunities through to the right people and helping the client relationship partner cross-sell to other practice groups and offices. 
  • Taking charge of marketing projects, delivering high quality output that is measurable and helps generate opportunities.
  • Support on cross-practice initiatives working with partners to define objectives, scope, and deliverables.
  • Manage the Corporate content library. 


Business Planning

 

  • Work with the Senior Business Development Manager to develop and implement annual business plans, budget proposals and campaign plans for the UK&I region. This will include acting as a strategic advisor to the Corporate practice in relation to the marketplace and how to approach it, as well as a leader in the commercial implementation of these plans.
  • Oversee Corporate BD activity to ensure regional objectives are met.  This includes, but is not limited to, pitching, leading on legal directories, marketing communications, event management, client development, and profile raising.
  • Drive and implement global, regional, and local BD initiatives within Corporate as appropriate.
  • Chair and drive activity through regular Corporate practice and BD team meetings as appropriate.


Client Development

 

  • Maintain awareness of relevant global and local marketing products which can be used for client development and dialogue.
  • Facilitate client feedback and act on actions arising from interviews; and assess how feedback can be used to drive behavioural change.

    
Profile Raising

 

  • Systematically measure performance in league tables and directories; ensuring all Corporate deals are reported for league table reporting; report on change in rankings.
  • Preparing practice awards, legal directory submissions and evaluating other sponsorship and other profile raising opportunities.
  • Work with the Digital Marketing and Communications team to develop the firm's profile for Corporate through our digital and social media channels. 
  • Manage the corporate web pages, and ensure content is current and regularly updated.
  • Ensure key practice activity is brand compliant and adopt our visual identity to deliver consistent materials to market.


Campaign Management

 

  • Key objectives will include to raise the market brand awareness and develop tools and opportunities for fee earners from across practices to leverage and grow their business.  
  • Drafting integrated campaign plans using the full range of communication channels.
  • Working alongside fee earners on the framing and development of content.
  • Oversee the designing, and where needed drafting, of marketing content (e.g. both client and internal communications, email and web content, and social media updates in collaboration with the digital team);
  • Develop client engagement opportunities, which may include (but not limited to) events (virtual and in person), round tables, and client meetings.


Best Practice

 

  • Adhere to and / or develop best practice to improve efficiency and transparency to fee earners.
  • Apply a sophisticated approach to the use of data, web, analytics, business analysis, client targeting and the development of content to generate leads for pursuit.
  • Encourage adherence to procedures and best practice with firm systems. 

 

Required experience, skills and knowledge

 

  • Solid BD/Marketing experience in professional services, ideally gained in the legal sector. 
  • Previous experience of pitches and RFPs is essential.
  • Ability to build strong networks internally and externally to benefit the firm and team.
  • Conscientious, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Positive, can do and hands-on attitude, with flexibility to turn to a variety of tasks.
  • Able to work in a team environment and with partners and fee earners.
  • Experience of running complex projects involving a range of stakeholders across practice areas and geographies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail. Strong IT skills, proficient in the use of PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to juggle a number of deadlines.
  • Experience of using InterAction helpful but not essential.
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent).
