Political Risk Consultant with a focus on China

About the EY Geostrategy

 

Geopolitics affects every global organization, from strategy to supply chain. Yet, many companies struggle to assess and manage this disruption and the impacts it has on their business. The Geostrategy team at EY helps organizations translate geopolitical insights into business strategy.

 

The team develops market-leading insights around political risk (geopolitical, country, regulatory and societal) and political risk management. We help organizations assess the impact of political risk on their business and integrate it into their strategy and risk management. 

 

 

The opportunity

We are looking for a Political Risk Consultant with expertise on China, who will help to cover China-specific geopolitical, political and regulatory trends and translate these into business-relevant insights for clients. This role will also provide ad-hoc support to consulting projects to offer a tailored analysis of China-related political risks and opportunities, as well as implications for companies with presence and/or business exposure to China. 

Rank:  Flexibility around tenure depending on experience, minimum 5 years working experience 

Location: Ideally Paris, London, Berlin

 

Your key responsibilities

As a member of the team fully dedicated to Geostrategy, political risk and economic policy, that sits across EMEIA in EY Strategy and Transactions you will

  • Enrich our geopolitical and sector insights with business-relevant perspectives on China domestic policy and geopolitical dynamics, regulatory developments and its international relations (especially with the EU and the US)
  • Research and analyze China political risk for global organizations, identify emerging issues for industries with footprint or business exposure to China
  • Identify sector-, and client-specific trends and business-relevant insights as required
  • Develop strategic relationships with EY colleagues across Asia-Pacific region and China experts within the firm 
  • Contribute to the development of client deliverables with wider EY teams across industry and geography to provide a China-specific angle to the analysis 

 

Skills And Attributes For Success

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, or related field; focus on China is preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in political risk analysis, market intelligence, public policy, academia, or government, with a primary focus on Asia and/or China
  • Advanced and demonstrated knowledge of China’s domestic economy and its global impact, with a particular focus on the fundamentals of the economic system, structural reform trajectory, trade policies and practices, and industrial policy
  • Advanced analytical skills to research, analyze and interpret information from multiple sources, ideally including in Chinese
  • Advanced written and verbal communications skills to present findings and explain business implications for specific sectors to business and non-specialized audiences
  • Ability to work independently in a globally spread team
  • Cultural sensitivity and global mindset
  • Time-management, adaptability to meet deadlines and manage competing demands
  • Full working proficiency in English and Mandarin

 

Ideally, you will also have

  • Previous experience covering and analyzing the international implications of Chinese politics and policymaking for bilateral economic and business relations
  • Familiarity with strategy consulting, macroeconomics, corporates/business and financial markets
