Assistant Director - Risk Exposure Reporting Manager

 

BACKGROUND
In recent years, EY UK has established a strong Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team and has a vacancy at Assistant Director level for a Risk Exposure Reporting Manager, who will be instrumental in helping the firm monitor its risk performance and in supporting the firm’s risk governance forums.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The ERM team is a second line of defence risk team of 20 people as part of the wider Risk Management team within Central Business Services (CBS) in EY UK. ERM is responsible for developing the risk management framework in EY UK and the identification, assessment and monitoring of the main risks facing the firm to provide an independent view to senior governance forums and regulators.

 

Within the team, the Risk Exposure Reporting Manager is a critical role, instrumental in shaping and developing the way risk management is monitored and reported within EY. The role has responsibility for monitoring the exposure against each of the risks, reporting this to various risk governance bodies – for example Risk Oversight Committee, Risk Executive Committee, Public Interest Board and the main EY UK LLP Board. Monitoring risk exposure will involve gathering evidence from various sources including for example monitoring of risk and control assessments within the Enterprise Risk Management system, monitoring Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and seeking other sources of information such as press articles. The role will have specific responsibility for maintaining and developing the suite of KRIs used within the UK firm.


The successful candidate will be comfortable with analysing high volumes of data, presenting this effectively and writing insightful narrative on risk exposure appropriate for a senior audience.The role will report to the Senior Manager for Risk Exposure, however, will have strong working relationships with Directors and Partners within Risk Management and the business. 
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Risk Exposure Reporting

  • Measure risks through KRIs derived from risk appetite and risk tolerances
  • Contribute to the assessment of current risk performance and future outlook for each of the risks within the risk profile at a UK firm level
  • Perform data analysis as required using the risk reporting system and other sources of data –most analysis will be conducted in Excel using for example pivot tables, lookups and graphs
  • Interpret the data within the enterprise risk system, identifying interesting trends and issues
  • Prepare high quality PowerPoint slides for reporting to governance committees with a strong visual impact and an appropriate level of detail for the audience
  • Prepare concise, well-written and insightful narrative for the reports
  • Conduct deep dive reviews on topics that are relevant for the risk profile of the firm
  • Contribute to significant deliverables for the firm such as the UK Transparency Report

 

KRI Development

  • Working with the Senior Manager Risk exposure, Framework Director and other senior stakeholders, maintain the portfolio of KRIs ensuring definitions and documentation are up to date
  • Work with the India based Data and Technology team to ensure appropriate data is sourced within EY for the various measures, KRIs are developed and tested
  • For new KRIs, set out prototype calculations in an Excel model to allow effective testing of the final delivered KRI
  • Ensure suitable tolerances for the KRIs are developed through engagement with the risk owners and the business as appropriate
  • Conduct adequate reviews and design controls to ensure effective data quality
  • Ensure relevant sign-offs are obtained.

 

Risk Governance

  • Be responsible for the schedule of risk items taken to the various risk committees –“calendarisation”
  • Ensure that submissions to governance bodies are completed accurately, timeously and in the right format for the meeting
  • Manage follow up actions that pertain to risk exposure and enterprise risk more generally from the governance committees

 

Risk and Controls Assessment

  • Contribute to regular reviews of the firm level risk profile considering service line assessments
  • Be responsible for the correct recording of the firm level risk profile within the risk reporting system
  • Assess control weaknesses and KRI gaps to inform the over risk exposure for each principal risk

 

People Management

  • One direct report – an Enterprise Risk Analyst at Senior Associate grade - delegating technical tasks and helping personal development
  • Oversee the Risk Analyst team in India that supports Reporting & Governance (currently two people)
  • Building strong working relationships with the GDS team that support the technology used by the ERM team
  • Manage senior stakeholders while conducting for example deep dives

 

Project Management and Change

  • Plan tasks for self and for team members
  • Deliver to deadlines, reporting progress and any risks and issues
  • Plan change activities such as KRI developments

 

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES
Experience

  • Experience of reporting within a Risk Management or similar relevant function
  • Experience of developing and reporting performance measures in an enterprise risk or similar function such as Finance
  • Experience of preparing reports including narratives for senior audiences

 

Ability

  • Dealing with problems in a practical and common-sense way, applying judgment to assessing risk matters.
  • Establishing a high degree of credibility, respect and trust with management levels, particularly with risk professionals in the firm.
  • Performing high level and detailed design, and to manage the implementation of required change.

 

Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills – you should be comfortable manipulating and summarising large volumes of data using PivotTables, look ups and advance Excel formulae to support analysis of data
  • Strong PowerPoint skills, presenting data, graphs and narrative in a compelling way with an attention to detail for formatting and presentation
  • Strong written communication skills – presenting complex ideas in a concise and compelling way
  • Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with a wide range of people.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills to prioritise key areas of responsibility, tasks and projects.
