Overview

The Office of the Provost-Business Services seeks applicants for the position of Business Manager I in the School of Graduate Studies. The Business Manager I will report to the Financial Officer, and will be instrumental in providing business support and financial management to their assigned unit. This position is hybrid telework eligible within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Generates/prepares written and oral reports, data verification, and budgetary processes.
  • Assists Vice Provost for Graduate Studies in all budget and financial matters.
  • Oversees human resource activities such as training, EPAFs, I9’s, pay, etc. and oversees/reviews various financial activities such as P-Card, financial Banner, travel, etc.
  • Prepares budget, budget reconciliation, data management, and fiscal information support.
  • Oversees scholarship awarding, reconciliation, and management.
  • Ensures payroll and other transactions are properly recorded and processed.
  • Communicates with other departments within and outside USU regarding financial matters.
  • Works with college financial officers regarding graduate studies processes and procedures.
  • Handles discrepancy resolution.
  • Commits to integrity; performs duties with diligence in accordance with professional standards and enforce university policies and procedures.
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Serves in the interest of Utah State University in a lawful manner while maintaining high standards of conduct and character.
  • Handles confidential information and other financial/accounting responsibilities designated by the Financial Officer. Manages projects effectively and demonstrates reliability and strong work ethic.
  • Participates in short/long-range budget planning and the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial objectives.
  • Responds to questions and concerns from customers.
  • Implements change when appropriate.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Knowledge of USU’s Banner, AggieTime, EZ-Buy, Argos, ServiceNow and iCIMS systems.
  • Knowledge of contracting processes and associated local, state, federal, and other regulations.
  • Familiar with USU Policies and Procedures.
  • Experience living/working in different cultural settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting principals, and cost control procedures.
  • Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to provide leadership, train others, and delegate workloads.
  • Detail oriented in own work as well as in reviewing work of others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, and discretion.
  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to measure performance of self; make improvement and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to make coherent and appropriate decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high level of professionalism.

    Advertised Salary

    Minimum $55,000; commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits

    Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
