Overview

Hunger Solutions Institute and Create Better Health (Utah’s SNAP-Ed program) are looking to hire an experienced chef to support the ‘Farmers Feeding Utah’ grant. The Hunger Solutions Institute Chef will develop nutritious recipes and cooking demos, using low cost and local foods. Recipes and demo videos will be used to support cultural programming, showcase local farmers, educate on the nutrition of local agriculture, supplement Create Better Health’s nutrition education programs, and reduce food waste in the state of Utah.

  • Position will allow for working up to 20 hours per week through the end of the Farmers Feeding Utah Grant (August 2024)

Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Team Collaboration
    • Regularly access email, calendar, and other collaboration tools for effective programming
    • Continuous learning of university policies to strengthen the fidelity of the Hunger Solutions Institute program
    • Regular communication with Hunger Solutions Institute Co-directors
  • Recipe development
    • Using local, nutritious, and low-cost foods, chef will develop recipes for pre-designated cultural programs and topics
  • Recipe Demos
    • Chef will work with Farmers Feeding Utah team to outline scripts for recipe demonstrations.
    • Chef will participate in the recording of planned recipe demonstrations along with Captain Create
  • Food Waste Think Tank
    • Chef will collaborate with other Utah chefs to reduce food waste in the state of Utah.
    • Chef will assemble tip sheets for reducing food waste in a variety of categories including home, restaurant, and local farms.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years culinary experience
  • Recipe demonstration experience
  • Interest in and experience with nutrition security

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical writing experience

    Advertised Salary

    $15.00 per hour

    Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
