Garden State Growers is a family-owned greenhouse and outdoor production operation on over 500 acres specializing in the growth and distribution of wholesale perennials, annuals, ground cover, vegetables, and varied seasonal offerings. We serve large retailers who sell plants in sizable quantities.
Garden State Growers is seeking a general mechanic to assemble, maintain and repair conveyors, motors, boilers, air lines and water lines, as well as have experience in carpentry and overall general maintenance. The mechanic will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of all mechanical systems.
Candidate must have manual dexterity and attention to detail as well as be able to work with various machines and tools while following all safety precautions.
Responsibilities
- Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements
- Inspect machines, conveyors boilers, etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
- Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability
- Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
- Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems
- Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components as needed
- Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or equipment users
- Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g. repair of hydraulic systems, painting, general maintenance, etc.)
- Keep logs of work and report on issues
Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of general maintenance mechanic duties. General experience as Mechanic
- Knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and air systems, other systems, and their components
- Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools
- Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.
- Team player and the ability to multitask
- A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
- Exceptional good communication skills
- Willingness to troubleshoot and problem solve independently
- Ability to lift 50lbs as well as bending, squatting, kneeling and standing for long periods of time
- High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite a plus
