Small and medium-size enterprises (SME) are one of the biggest drivers of growth and innovation in economies all over the world. Despite these companies being a powerful force in the economy, many SMEs find it difficult to raise capital during critical stages of their company growth. Traditional commercial lending is optimised to make loans that are either too small to be effective or too large and expensive to be practical. At OakNorth, our mission is to help lenders fill this gap which we refer to as the “Missing Middle.” We are building a SaaS platform called the Credit Intelligence Suite which transforms commercial lending by helping banks build deeper relationships with their clients, open new, more profitable opportunities, whilst delivering credit decisions up to ten times faster than traditional models, with lower risk and greater efficiency. 
The team 🚣‍♀️ 🚣 🚣‍♂️We are a team of 10 engineers based in London who look after all aspects of the running of our web application.Our responsibilities as an engineering team are:Data processing pipeline: that ingestion of banking data from our customers and generation of proprietary analyticsCustomer-facing web app: presenting the analytics to the customer in a way that surfaces the key insights into their portfolio

The Role 👟

• A Senior Full Stack Engineer at OakNorth will play a crucial role in leading the development of the customer-facing parts of the application
• You will have a big role in ensuring what we build is the best solution for the customer
• Aside from engineers, you can expect to be collaborating daily with Product, Customer Success, our internal Credit experts and of course, the customers themselves
• As a small team there will be regular opportunities to help out on other parts too: data pipeline, AWS infrastructure, monitoring and observability functions, developer experience and more
• Full stack mix - more frontend or backend? You can expect a healthy mix of both: We are a small team with a new and changing product, so there will be meaningful work to do on both sides, such as standing up totally new product experiences
• As a Senior member of the team, you will drive good technical practices and engineering culture in the team

• Frontend: Our web app is React + Typescript
• Backend: Python, FastAPI & PostgreSQL
• AWS: Our app is cloud hosted
• Continuous Deployment: We’re deploying changes to our app multiple times a day with Github and CircleCI
• Data: Databricks workflows power our data pipeline

Skills & Experience ✅

• You are keen to take responsibility for the frontend and backend parts of our stack
• You’ve worked on a cloud hosted app before - bonus points for AWS!
• A Passion for Product: you feel energised building a deep understanding of customer problems to help come up with the best solutions
• Fintech experience is not required - you’ll have the opportunity to learn about our customers business on the job
• You have worked at a start-up or small company and thrive in a less rigidly structured environment
• Leading projects and being accountable for their delivery brings out the best in you
• You want to work in a collaborative team where people help each other excel in their roles

Your time at ONci 🕰️

• As soon as you join you will be contributing to the development of our platform - there’s plenty to do! Additionally you can expect 1-1 time with the various team members who you will be working with day-in day-out - both from engineering and elsewhere. We’ll get you on calls with customers to get to know them and their problems too.
• Once up to speed you can expect to be owning projects from a fairly early stage. Whether leading a project or collaborating on another, you can expect to be building brand new functionality (and removing things that didn’t pan out!) throughout your time here.

We have ambitious goals for this platform, and to help us realise them we’re looking for experienced software engineers who are just as focused on the product side of engineering as they are on the technical. You’ll be joining our global engineering team, which is less than 100 engineers, to make a big impact on the direction of our technology platform and most importantly, on the day-to-day workflows of our customers. 
Our CustomersIn addition to OakNorth’s own bank in the UK, the software is also being deployed by banks around the world, including: Capital One, Fifth Third, PNC, SMBC, Customers Bank, Old National Bank, Modern Bank, and Lafayette Square in the US, and ABN Amro, NIBC and OIMIO in Europe.
