Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Genetic Counselor to the group at Lincoln Medical Center. The Hospital is part of the NYC Health + Hospitals System (NYCHHC). Lincoln is a designated Level I Trauma and Stroke Center and has Centers of Excellence in all medical specialties including its award- winning Cancer and Breast Centers.
The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with Albert Einstein Medical College To maintain its high healthcare delivery standards.
Responsibilities
We are hiring for a full time Genetic Counselor for our OB/GYN deparment at Linoln Medical Center. The Genetic counselor schedule is Weekdays 830 am to 430 pm and will be working with medical the geneticist to interview/screen and follow up patients referred to genetics as well as:
- Evaluating family history and medical records to assess risks of fetal development, the chance of occurrence or recurrence of a genetic condition, birth defect, autism, intellectual disability and other conditions based on family history and pedigree constructed and analyzed
- Ordering and interpreting genetic tests to understand patients’ genetic disorders or risks
- Explaining the results and implications of genetic tests to patients or family members
- Providing information and resources about genetic disorders and available treatments or management strategies
- Discussing testing options, risks and benefits of testing and possible outcomes with patients to help them make informed decisions.
- Counseling patients and families on emotional and psychological aspects of genetic disorders.
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, and psychologists, social workers to provide comprehensive care.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of genetic screening programs
- Maintaining current knowledge in genetics, including understanding of new genetic testing methods and treatments
- Conducting research to further understand genetic conditions and enhance counseling methods.
Qualifications
- Current licensed NYS registration certificate
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in genetic counseling preferred
- Master's in Genetic Counseling
