Bioinformatician II-Personalized Medicine at Mount Sinai Health System

Job Descrption

The Bioinformatician II works with researchers and/or biologists on innovative genomic analyses of structural variation, epigenetics, and gene expression in an integrated environment combining experimental and bioinformatic approaches to human disease. This is a key role for a bioinformatics analyst who will lead a variety of projects and gain exposure to many productive areas of research. S/he develops/supports multiple research projects by delivering bioinformatics services for bio-medical data from cutting-edge genomic technologies.

This individual demonstrates strong statistical and biological programming proficiencies with proven expertise in genomic analysis and advanced knowledge of analytical methodologies.

  • Develop and lead a variety of bioinformatics analysis projects.
  • Write custom scripts for analysis of genomic data derived from high-throughput techniques.
  • Manage databases, conduct statistical and genomic analysis, and participate in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
  • Collaborate with wet-bench biologists and work independently to analyze data derived from several types of projects using microarrays and high-throughput sequencing.
  • Proficiency in working with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments, including experience with job scheduling systems (e.g., LSF) and parallel computing.
  • Understanding of genomic data standards and formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and proficiency in using tools for data manipulation and visualization.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration with researchers from other fields such as molecular biology, clinical research, and computational sciences to design and execute comprehensive genomics studies.
  • Actively partners with wet-lab biologists to interpret and analyze data from diverse projects, utilizing both microarray technologies and high-throughput sequencing methodologies.
  • Demonstrates autonomy in data analysis, seamlessly integrating findings from multiple research streams.
  • Conducts rigorous quality control procedures and comprehensive analysis to ensure data integrity and reliability.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • PhD in bioinformatics, neuroscience, genetics, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in research environment, including manipulating large biological datasets.
  • Advanced knowledge of genetics and/or statistics analysis software and online resources. Strong programming skills in R or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with analyzing NGS data (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, whole-genome sequencing) using various bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize HPC environments for complex genomic data analysis, including proficiency with job scheduling systems like LSF, SLURM or PBS.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to productively work as a member of a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Experience analyzing high-throughput genomic datasets. 

 

 

Compensation Statement

 

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $65,885.00 - $130,000.08 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
