JOB SUMMARY: Works with the school's administration, the district director of Language Supports and Services and the district English language support (ELS) team to promote the district's ELS vision: To provide culturally and linguistically diverse learners with equitable access to cohesive learning opportunities that accelerate their social and academic English, provide meaningful access to grade level content, and increase their overall achievement through collaboration and co-teaching.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only and are subject to flexibility dependent on organizational needs.
- Build capacity so that all teachers are equipped to design and deliver linguistically appropriate instruction all day, every day.
- Collaborate and co-teach with mainstream classroom teachers.
- Assess and progress monitor the language development and academic performance of multilingual learners in conjunction with mainstream classroom teachers.
- Serve as a building resource for administrators and classroom teachers.
- Serve as an advocate for multilingual learners and their families.
- Ensure that multilingual learners receive English language development appropriate for their level of English proficiency and embedded within content.
- Model, support and promote rigorous instruction and high standards for multilingual learners.
- Connect and collaborate with administrators, families and students.
- Foster and promote sheltered instruction and explicit language development in mainstream classrooms throughout the school.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum amounts of formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be met for a candidate to be considered for a position
- Bachelor's degree
- Student teaching/practicum/internship experience that meets or exceeds Colorado's requirements
- Experience working with multilingual learners from various language backgrounds
- Intermediate knowledge of Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards
- Intermediate knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards (CAS)
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire
MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: The minimum certifications and licenses that must be met, valid, and unexpired for a candidate to be considered for a position
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
- Colorado Department of Education Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Education (Grades K-12) endorsement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any job-related formal education, professional work experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are inessential and in addition to the minimum qualifications, certifications, and licenses
- Formal education beyond a Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) years of successful classroom experience
- Experience as an elementary classroom teacher
- Experience co-teaching and sharing responsibility for planning, instructing, and assessing students
- Experience using various approaches to co-teaching based on student needs
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
- Basic program development and coordination skills
- Basic organizational leadership skills
- Basic team building skills
- Intermediate problem-solving skills

Additional Information: Summer school offered at Prairie Middle School for Prairie Middle School students. Will co-teach with a literacy content teacher for 5 hours per day, Monday-Thursday, from 7:30-12:30, starting June 10 through July 25, with the exception of June 19. 2 positions available.
