An opportunity has arisen for a laboratory technician to work within our client’s testing facility. The role involves air flow testing of gas turbine engine components to support manufacturing quality control.
Required skills and experience:
- Degree or HND in science / engineering, preferably aerospace engineering
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Due to expansion of the laboratory with new workflows and exciting opportunities to develop testing our client requires an additional technician to join the team. The role is primarily around air flow testing of gas turbine components to ensure parts have the correct cooling properties for dealing with the extreme high temperature environments they need to operate. The lab uses novel bespoke rigs developed over many years which routinely require modification to meet new testing requirements. As you will be involved in the continual development of the rigs having an engineering mind set is essential. Having CAD knowledge / experience would also be beneficial. Training will be provided in-house due to the unique nature of the testing but having good practical skills will be important.
Key activities:
- Preparation and testing of predominantly turbine components to determine flow rate through cooling holes, completion of associated quality control activities, and reporting of results within the scope of the laboratory.
- Assessment is carried out using a variety of specially designed rigs.
- Duties may also include application of problem solving to resolve practical issues associated with component geometries and rig design.
- Role is based within a client team who are responsible for managing workloads and assigning tasks.
- Working directly with client and alongside other Intertek employees in a small team.
