Role description:

Working as a Security Vetting Officer in the Security Team will require a principle driven approach to security to navigate complex personnel risks across our business operations.

You will be responsible for managing Security Vetting cases for both Baseline Personal Security Standard (BPSS) checks and National Security Vetting (NSV) clearances in line with the Government standards and processes, and those of the United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV). This will include the collation and verification of personnel data to support new applications; ensuring processes conform with internal vetting standards and business requirements. Your responsibilities will cover the management of communications and information flow throughout the employee Vetting application lifecycle.

Given the nature of Arcadis’ business, personnel security and vetting play a fundamental role in our ability to deliver customer work. You will ensure operational excellence within the vetting administration process which underpins the integrity of Arcadis and satisfy the requirements of regulators by delivery of a consistent and professional experience.

The Security Vetting Officer role ensures that the day-to-day processing and upkeep of all clearances and information is processed within a timely manner. This critical role provides continuity for the vetting function, reporting into the Security Manager and sitting within the wider Corporate Services Directorate.

Role accountabilities:

  • Understand the BPSS and UKSV security vetting processes and have first hand experience of managing caseloads within an operating environment requiring security clearances.
  • Have experience of handling sensitive data and applying discretion to sensitive personal matters within the resolution of complex personnel scenarios.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of personnel security risk and the role of security vetting within the employee lifecycle.
  • Review vetting applications to ensure they are complete and comply with BPSS and UKSV policy & procedure.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders within the Arcadis process to support the transfer of security clearances based on individual requirements.
  • Identify potential issues and any matters relating to an applicant’s suitability for vetting clearance which may present risk to security or require further research and investigation prior to vetting clearance decision being made.
  • Engage with candidates, where necessary, to clarify information to ensure that vetting decisions are based on an appropriate understanding of that information.
  • Maintain application status and vetting workflow performance metrics and align with wider risk management reporting frameworks.
  • Act as a first point of contact for vetting matters to provide advice and guidance and to support colleagues in the gathering and interpretation of information, using official UK Government guidance as a baseline for interpretation.
  • Support Security staff and People Services within internal investigations, aligned with UKSV guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administration of secure Vetting life cycle in accordance with HMG
  • Deliver an outstanding Security Clearance administration process including verification of internal and external clearances.
  • Processing and recording of all Vetting applications/ Clearances for Permanent employees, contractors and associates.
  • Monitoring of existing clearance expiries and proactively follow up outstanding requests.
  • To carry out aftercare to healthily maintain all types of Security Clearance
  • Produce reports to deliver to senior management as and when required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clients Security Policy Framework
  • Follow up on any outstanding requests and monitor existing clearance expiries.
  • Record and action all Vetting requests in a timely manner.
  • Support and provide advice for all types of security Vetting (BPSS, SC, DV)
  • Observance of the Official Secrets Act
  • Undertake such other reasonable duties, commensurate with the job holder’s experience and qualifications, as may be required for the smooth operation of the business.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience with UKSV and government dept vetting applications.
  • Previous experience within a Personnel Security Vetting Role, ideally in public sector
  • Highly accurate with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise & deliver accurate results to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • An ability to challenge and negotiate when confronted with problematic situations.
  • An ability to work under time constraints and extreme pressure to produce data expediently.
  • Provision of security vetting advice to the business and appropriate external stakeholders
  • To work across function with all areas of the business
  • Proven ability to work in team environment whilst working on own allocated work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to act in the strictest confidence when dealing with Secure Vetting
  • Understanding of General Data Protection Regulation.
  • To exceed the expectations of internal and external stakeholders

Training:

You will have attended or be expected to attend the Defence Industry Security Association (DISA), Security Vetting Procedures course upon recruitment.
