Role description:
We are looking to recruit an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Cost Consultant to join our Defence team and lead the commercial management function across various commissions.
You will have responsibility for delivering a scope of work in line with all pre & post contract stages of works, including use of cost models, investment appraisals, cost reporting and benchmarking data.
Role accountabilities:
- Work within established procedures to undertake tasks relating to the cost control of projects. Review financial information to identify any anomalies or discrepancies to ensure management has access to up-to-date and accurate information.
- Deliver/assist to manage small to medium scale cost projects or significant components of cost management assignments, ensuring the delivery of the required scope of work within set deadlines ·
- Understand and comply with business risk and present any project concerns or issues to senior managers to ensure the project is not adversely impacted ·
- Provide support to colleagues on principles of risk management, to ensure adherence to the organisation’s risk and compliance processes ·
- Analyse and review a range of data to collate trends and prepare documentation such as delivery plans, providing advice and making recommendations to support cost and commercial management decision-making ·
- Interpret data and prepare supporting documentation such as schedules, feasibility studies and cost reports, making straightforward recommendations to support senior colleagues in their decision-making process.
- Use own knowledge and experience to review and analyse existing cost and commercial management processes and policies, sharing knowledge and taking an active involvement in service improvement and innovation ·
- Assist senior staff with internal and external customers, applying technical knowledge to complete complex, professional level tasks to ensure projects/programmes can be delivered to meet customer expectations.
Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Relevant professional qualification or chartered status, or working towards
- A good level of technical knowledge
- Experience within the Local Government, Central Government or Defence sectors would be advantageous
- Experience using digital cost tools such as CostX, 5D BIM etc
- Due to the nature of the projects you'll be working on, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) is required. If you do not already have BPSS level clearance, you would need to be willing to go through this process.
