POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for all aspects of management and administration of a Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Supervises, mentors and
counsels personnel. Ensures all sterilization and decontamination activities meet or exceed the Association for the Advancement of
Medical Instrumentation (AMMI), International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) and The
Joint Commission (TJC) standards. Provides guidance and support to nursing departments which require services from sterile processing
in collaboration with nursing leadership. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period.
Other related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associates Degree from an accredited college or high school graduate with 5
years supervisory experience in OR or Sterile Processing
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3 years in OR and/or Sterile Processing in a supervisory role
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
(CBSPD) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service
Material Management (IAHCSMM)
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Lean Certification or Lean Six Sigma Certification

Managing the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation processes. Assures that appropriate practices and methods are maintained according to manufacturer recommendations, departmental policies, and in compliance with standards set by regulatory agencies and professional associations. Oversees instrument inventory workflow, maintains the effective use of associated technology/ computer systems for instruments, tracking and reporting. Manages employee utilization, productivity, competence, and morale. Maintains quality control systems, including appropriate documentation. Ensures staffing is appropriate by monitoring FTE budget numbers.
Education:
Required: Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
Required: 1 year management experience. 3 years progressive work-related experience in sterile processing or surgical services.
Preferred: 3 years in a leadership role. Able to demonstrate an advanced knowledge of instrumentation. Demonstrated prior experience working with instrument tracking systems. CST or operating room RN experience.
Certifications:
Required: IAHCSMM or CBSPD certified.
