RN PreOp Specialty Unit Full Time Days Position Summary
As one of the only specialty heart hospitals in the entire Southwest, Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital’s Preoperative department prepares a variety of patients needing heart and/or vascular services for their procedure. Common procedures that are prepped for surgery in this area include coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), Mitraclip, carotid endarterectomy, peripheral vascular surgeries, heart catheterizations and many others. Our preop department is unique in that we also do some procedures with recovery including Transesophageal echocardiogram, tilt table tests, and cardioversions. Ratios depend on the mix of patients you have but are normally 2-3:1. Your career can take many different paths within this department with opportunities to float to the main recovery unit and our phase two recovery area.
Special Skills: Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with team members required. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional periods of above average pressure. Excellent customer service skills. Must have basic computer skills. Strongly preferred background in preoperative/procedural, in an inpatient or outpatient care setting, CVICU or ICU or minimum of 2 years in Cardiac Stepdown.
THE RN PREOP SPECIALTY UNIT FULL TIME DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Nursing Degree from an accredited nursing school
PREFERRED EDUCATION: BSN
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: One year of acute care experience; medical/surgical floor, telemetry, ICU, ER.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prefer preoperative/procedural experience in inpatient or outpatient care setting
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona. CPR. ACLS required or must obtain within six months of hire.

The RN provides high-quality, safe, cost-effective, total nursing care to all patients. The RN assumes responsibility for overall coordination and integration of patient care based on the nursing process. The RN directs care according to established standards of safety, risk management, QI, and Infection Control, with the goal being to discharge the patient with an optimum level of care provided. Assumes responsibility for coordination and planning of patient care within the prescribed medical regime. Administers all medications safely and in a timely manner per hospital policy. Performs and fulfills all HICS (hospital incident command system) responsibilities, assignments, tasks, and roles as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency and/or disaster. Responsible for knowing the Hospital’s emergency codes, including the purpose and appropriate action for each, and adheres to the Hospital policies and procedures for each emergency code.
Education:
Required: Graduated from a state approved school of nursing or an accredited school.
Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing
Experience:
Preferred: Recent acute care experience.
Certifications:
Required: Currently licensed, certified, or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy; CPR. AHA BLS, and if applicable by corporate policy for unit of hire, AHA ACLS and/or PALS and/or NRP.
