YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED? 

  • Leading a multi-disciplinary renewables engineering team to deliver technically excellent solutions to our clients across a broad portfolio of projects;
  • Developing designs and approaches that clearly differentiate WSP from our competitors;
  • Providing technical leadership and governance;
  • Promote and lead innovation across the team and the application of engineering principles to first of a kind projects;
  • Supporting work winning including writing compelling bids and generating cost estimates for proposals;
  • Working collaboratively with other groups within WSP and maximising overall WSP opportunity;
  • Providing internal and external thought leadership;
  • Lead on strategy and growth for Renewables Engineering Team as part of the whole Energy Transition strategy;
  • Line management of the Renewables Engineering team, including staff development and project resourcing;
  • Identification of skills gaps and recruitment of technical staff;
  • As part of the group leadership team, helping to meet group business objectives and KPIs.

THE TEAM

  • The UK Renewables team provide services to Clients from inception through development, construction, operation, and decommissioning. An approach that sees us support our clients over the entire lifecycle of a project.
  • Our team’s expertise covers all Renewable generation technologies and includes novel, first of a kind concepts. Working together with private developers, power utilities, government bodies, banks, lending agencies, contractors and OEM’s we safely deliver projects whilst meeting and exceeding client expectations.
  • Our teams are strategically placed in Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol and Belgrade to support operations in the UK, Ireland and Europe. We also work internationally with our clients and other Energy sector teams in North America, Middle East, Africa, South America, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline;
  • Ideally achieved Chartered Engineer status or being close to achieving it;
  • Significant experience of managing design and engineering teams;
  • Significant experience of technical delivery of projects in the Renewable Energy sector;
  • Expertise in the design and construction of renewable energy projects, ideally across Solar, BESS and Wind;
  • Excellent commercial awareness and extensive experience of cost estimating and build-up of cost, time and resource plans across all engineering disciplines;
  • Extensive knowledge of national and international design codes and standards related to energy projects;
  • Outstanding Customer focus and a commitment to problem solving;
  • Experience and an excellent understanding of the CDM Regulations;
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and work with people at all levels of an organisation;
  • Ability to deal with conflicting priorities and offer win-win solutions;
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.
