WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President/Transportation Planning for our Atlanta, Georgia office.  This individual will lead transportation planning tasks, develop solutions to complex transportation problems, mentor staff, participate in client-facing activities, and deliver quality planning products to our clients. We're looking for a creative, analytical planner who can take ownership of tasks and bring value to our transit, rail, and multimodal projects.  

Candidates should demonstrate experience in Georgia or a comparable transportation markets, leading and delivering work tasks for transportation projects and studies including data collection, research, and documentation contributing to the development of statewide, regional, and local transportation plans, corridor plans, transit plans and studies, multi-modal feasibility studies, rail studies, managed lanes studies, and other analyses. Day to day work will require leading tasks or subtasks, developing methodologies or processes, conducting planning analyses, guiding a team of planners to produce deliverables, and presenting findings to clients or stakeholders. 

This position will interact and collaborate with the Georgia Planning and Environment team, the Georgia Office and Southeast District leadership team, governmental agencies, subcontractors, the public, and other WSP personnel across business lines.

The successful candidate must be a team player and a self-starter, demonstrate strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and technical and skills.  Ability and interest in mentoring early career staff is a must.
 

Your Impact

Demonstrate Knowledge of:

  • Best practices in rail, transit, and multimodal transportation planning analyses 
  • MARTA and other large urban transit providers in the southeast 
  • Passenger rail planning, including Amtrak and Corridor ID 
  • GDOT Offices of Planning and Intermodal
  • Experience with MPOs in Georgia
  • Emerging trends in the transportation planning space 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, potential clients, and partner firms
  • Manage tasks, including delegating or conducting data collection, mapping, analysis, methodology development, and report writing 
  • Prepare, edit, format and produce technical reports and displays
  • Coordinate and/or participate in the development and execution of stakeholder and public involvement activities associated with planning projects
  • Mentor early career staff
     

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Engineering or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work as part of a team, work cross-functionally and think critically and strategically
  • Familiarity with Georgia transportation planning issues
  • Familiarity with MARTA planning procedures 
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form
  • Critical, strategic and creative thinking skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate with individuals and teams 
  • Computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS)
  • Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports 
  • Understanding of project administration and management
  • Ability to travel as needed 
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Engineering or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience 
  • AICP certification
