Job Descrption
Wood is seeking to engage a Principal/Lead Mechanical Equipment Engineer with the skills and experience to lead a team on one of a range of pre-FEED, FEED and EPC projects dealing with Carbon Capture and Storage, Green Energy, and Recycling, as well as Oil and Gas, Refining, Chemicals and Petrochemicals. This is a permanent staff position based in our Reading office.
The successful candidate will be required to lead a team of mechanical and materials engineers (including vessels, heat exchanger, fired heater, rotating equipment, package equipment, material and corrosion, fabrication, noise, and coatings specialist) on a project. Responsibilities will include:
- Delivering discipline scope in line with schedule and budget
- Controlling scope
- Establishing execution approach
- Allocation and monitoring of work between team members
- Ensuring technical quality and providing guidance to team
- Managing interfaces on project with Project Management, other disciplines, and Client
- Reporting on project status regularly to Department and Project Management

- A degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
- Chartered status with a major engineering institution
- Extensive experience Oil and Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, or related industries
- A successful track record of working on pre-FEED, FEED and EPC projects.
- Extensive experience of working as a mechanical engineering specialist (e.g., as a static equipment, rotating equipment, or package equipment engineer)
- Familiarity with specifying, selecting and purchasing equipment within a contracting environment.
- Good organisational, communication and delegation skills
- The independent right to live and work in the UK.
- Able to demonstrate initiative, tenacity and excellent communication skills
- Flexible attitude and ability to work in multi-disciplinary team environments
- Computer literate within Microsoft Office
- Must have the right to work in the UK
