Wood is recruiting for an Associate Technical Director to join our Carbon Advisory team within our Technical Consulting Division. 

  

This role will be based in our Reading office with hybrid working available;

The Role 

  

We are seeking applications for an exciting opportunity to contribute to Wood Consulting’s Carbon Advisory team assisting our energy sector, mining and life sciences clients achieve their climate change ambitions by supporting the key activities to manage climate related risks and opportunities. You will be a passionate individual seeking to effect positive change through creative thinking, independent and proactive leadership, and a collaborative and committed work ethic. We are looking for individuals who have launched their careers, have shown drive and enthusiasm for addressing  climate change challenges with engineering or science-based know-how and are now looking to further develop their knowledge and experience in a fast moving and progressive consulting environment.

The breadth of work across Wood will provide you with an opportunity to work within a wide range of studies and clients alongside multi-disciplinary teams of various sizes, expanding your experience and expertise.  

The Carbon Advisory team combines carbon emissions and policy consultancy with a strong technical  emphasis. The Associate Director will be responsible for the execution of proposals, studies and projects and provision of advisory services to our clients including: 

  • Supporting clients understand and baseline their current scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions,  
  • Performing and modeling cradle-to-grave lifecycle and product carbon footprint analysis., 
  • Screening decarbonisation opportunities for supply and demand side reduced carbon intensity solutions across the development lifecycle from conceptual design to decommissioning,  
  • At a strategic level, work with clients to develop a systematic framework for the management of decarbonisation including defining overarching strategies, plans & detailed roadmaps with key milestones, journey enablers, timeframes, drivers and identifying on-route threats, risks, and uncertainties,  
  • Performing assessments and advising clients on transitional opportunities and risks, including policy drivers and incentives, 
  • Evaluating and advising on carbon pricing and offsetting and crediting mechanisms.  
  • Providing third party emissions verification services in the energy and mining sectors, 
  • Assessing the resiliency of client’s assets and projects for climate change impacts. #

Typical Responsibilities 

 

  • Contribute to the rapid development of a business line that provides a comprehensive carbon accounting and carbon footprint reduction consulting service to the oil and gas industry
  • Work with others to shape and communicate a mission and vision for the business and assist the management team build  a medium and long-term strategy to make it a reality 
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of emerging market trends and industry developments and establish new offerings to meet client needs 
  • Demonstrate a full and up to date understanding of the main institutional and regulatory drivers underpinning the business  
  • Communicate with, and build sound and credible relationships with clients, up to Chief Financial Officer level, to expand the reach of the business and exploit opportunities 
  • Monitor the wider Wood plc business and establish networks and collaborative partnerships to maximise on pull-through business opportunities
  • Develop new ideas and identify opportunities to expand the business and drive increased revenue, and profit 
  • Support the development of  proposals, marketing strategies and presenting them to internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead an elite and approachable team of subject matter experts on large scale studies 
  • Contribute to building a positive organisational culture based on trust, respect, and opportunities for personal development and one that encourages and welcomes fresh ideas

Expected: 

  • Extensive knowledge of Financial Market requirements for carbon accounting and CFR and inter-related sustainable development issues
  • Extensive understanding of the concepts, principles and practices employed in the field of carbon accounting
  • Knowledge of the current issues important for carbon emission reduction and an understanding of the current and future challenges facing policy makers and industry
  • A proven record of successful management within a consulting environment and participation in the formulation of effective business strategies and organisational frameworks
  • A successful record of, leading, and motivating a team of professionals to a high level of achievement
  • A demonstrable track record of making a significant contribution to strategic decision-making and to company policy formulation and delivery
  • Ability to identify and evaluate crosscutting synergies in business opportunities and institutional Policy making
  • Resource management strengths with strong analytical skills and a creative approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to think strategically about business development and implementation
  • First class communicator with highly developed networking, advocacy, and presentation skills, persuasive and influential

 

 

Desirable: 

  • Demonstrable background in decarbonisation studies and/or lifecycle analysis 
  • Experience in assisting clients to map energy and fuel usage and associated carbon equivalent emissions. 
  • Has experience in assisting clients to identify and screen emissions reduction opportunities  
  • Chartered to an internationally recognised Professional body (or working towards) 
  • Good negotiation skills 
  • Second language
