About the role
The Resources and Workshop Manager is a key leadership role at our Port Botany terminal. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for optimising maintenance resources to ensure all engineering maintenance work at the terminal is carried out productively, efficiently and in a safe manner.
As Resources and Workshop Manager, you will manage a team of Shift Supervisors and oversee the performance of our engineering and mechanical tradespersons who are responsible for maintaining heavy mobile equipment, fixed plant and facilities.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee the performance of the electrical and mechanical tradespersons.
- Ensure repairs and maintenance activities within the workshop environment are carried out in a safe manner and to an acceptable engineering standard.
- Manage planned and unplanned work including resource allocation in consultation with the Engineering Superintendents.
- Recommend, develop and implement systems and procedures to improve efficiency of the Maintenance Workshop.
- Drive quality-based maintenance practice, ensuring repair and maintenance standards are high, timely and cost effective.
- Work with the Planning and Scheduling Superintendent to develop a proactive preventive maintenance culture within the Engineering and Operations Departments.
- Ensure all contractors are managed in accordance with the Terminal Site Contractor Management Plan.
- Assist with preparation of the Maintenance budget and capital expenditure proposals relevant to the workshop.
- Financial accountability for designated projects & labour efficiency.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Tertiary engineering qualification or advanced trade qualification in mechanical or electrical discipline.
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, mining, utilities, aircraft, or similar.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy plant and equipment and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance management plans and techniques.
- Demonstrated experience managing large scale 24x7 operations.
- Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop and encourage team members to positively contribute to business goals and objectives.
- Successful track record operating in a heavily unionised environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to make sound, logical, day-to-day operational decisions.
- Working knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice and risk management procedures.
- Experience in the use of computer-based maintenance management systems (Maximo preferred).
