Job Descrption

UE06 £32,982 - £38,205 Per Annum

College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine / Clinical Sciences / Institute for Regeneration and Repair

Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Open-Ended

We seek an enthusiastic and service-focused individual to join our Institute for Regeneration and Repair team providing research grant management support. You will provide a comprehensive, organised, responsive, proactive and flexible advice and facilitation service to a varied portfolio of academics within one or more of the centres that make up the Institute: Centre for Inflammation Research (CIR), Centre for Reproductive Health (CRH), Centre for Regenerative Medicine (CRM). You will be responsible for supporting at all stages of the research grants process, from application development to final grant audit, liaising with expertise at Edinburgh Research Office at every stage.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.  We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The Opportunity:

Our institute has a small finance team of 12 who work together to support the academic endeavour of our three research centres. Within this group we have a transactional general ledger finance team and we have a grants team. As a grants team member, you will have your own individual Principal Investigator (PI) portfolio as well as providing general support, so there is opportunity for both independent initiative driven work and larger group working within this role. We have initiated a programme of costing harmonisation across the three research centres to facilitate more efficient cross-cover within the Institute so although each Research Grants Finance Officer is responsible for their own PI portfolio, the creation of standardised practice ensures that work can be covered across the team during busy periods and periods of leave/absence. We will be supplying full training; however previous experience of working within the higher education research funding environment would be a strong advantage.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Significant financial or management accounting experience working in a busy accounts office environment with experience in higher education sector.
  • Previous experience and/or knowledge of the UK research funding environment is desirable.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to seeking out information, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new skills, particularly digital skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and at ease when dealing with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable planning and organisation skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
