Student Information Systems Manager - Education at Mayo Clinic

Job Descrption

Reporting to the Director of Student Services Support, the Student Information Systems (SIS) Manager for Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science (MCCMS) will play a pivotal role in fostering collaborative relationships across MCCMS campuses and business units. Acting as a key liaison, the Manager closely partners with leaders to support the overarching goals of both Mayo Clinic and MCCMS. Additionally, they bridge communication between functional units of Student Services and partners from the MCCMS Education Technology Center (ETC) and Mayo Clinic Information Technology (IT). 

In this role, strategic partnerships with various business units (including College leadership, School Administrators and Deans, and the Office of Education Reporting & Analytics (ERA)) are integral to align system configuration with MCCMS and Mayo Clinic goals. This collaborative effort extends to key units such as Student Services, ETC, and IT, ensuring alignment with data strategy, learner experience goals, and the overall IT ecosystem.

The incumbent will regularly bring together key personnel and subject matter experts from Student Services, the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, ETC, IT, Schools, and ERA. This cross-functional team serves as a hub for providing valuable advice and counsel on matters related to student information system management and the administration of academic programs.


In the role of SIS Manager at MCCMS, the incumbent serves as a visionary leader, responsible for driving the continuous evolution of the Student Information System (SIS). This dynamic position involves articulating a compelling vision and strategically implementing untapped functionalities to enhance efficiency.
Vendor management is a critical aspect of the SIS Manager's responsibilities. They coordinate, manage, and nurture vendor relations, championing upgrades and aligning initiatives with college goals to maximize MCCMS’s investment in the SIS.
The SIS Manager's influence extends beyond system maintenance to overall functional leadership, encompassing governance, prioritization, system development, integration coordination, testing, documentation, training, and data integrity oversight.
Amid MCCMS's SIS renovation initiative, the Manager spearheads change management efforts, ensuring seamless transition and integration of new functionalities. Collaboration spans across Student Services, ETC, and IT, emphasizing a holistic approach to reshaping the SIS.

This role positions the SIS Manager at the forefront of transformative change within MCCMS's SIS, demanding visionary thinking and a proactive approach to driving adoption across curricular, process, data, and systems needs.
Daily responsibilities include operational support, prompt user assistance, resolution of system issues, and continuous enhancement of SIS functionality through collaboration with stakeholders.
The role also involves continuous data integrity management, including audits, corrections, and ensuring up-to-date information accuracy, emphasizing shared ownership with ETC colleagues for ongoing SIS functionality.

This position is a combination of remote and onsite support work. Individual must live within driving distance to any of the Mayo Clinic campuses.

**Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Education and Employment:
•   Bachelor’s Degree
•   Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, specifically at the intersection of student services and software technology.
•   Demonstrated success in leading initiatives or projects.

•   Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams.
•   Expertise: In-depth understanding of software solutions for student information.
•   Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills with a track record of effective problem-solving.
•   Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to convey complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
•   Motivation and Engagement: Highly self-motivated and engaged, with a passion for advancing operational excellence.

Technical Skills and Experience:
•   Student Information System Proficiency: Extensive hands-on experience with student information systems, preferably Ellucian Banner.
•   Query and Reporting Expertise: Proven proficiency in query and report writing, demonstrating the ability to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.
•   Data Management: Strong understanding of data and reporting in higher education, including data governance and quality assurance.
•   Implementation Experience: Track record of successful student information system implementations.
•   Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with FERPA and confidentiality needs related to student records.
•   Legal and Compliance Implications: Knowledge of legal and compliance implications related to student records in a higher education context.
•   Accreditation and Regulatory Awareness: Understanding of accreditation and regulatory responsibilities in higher education.
