Job duties:

This is paraprofessional support work in the care, treatment, and in-patient medical coordination of care of patients at Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center. Work includes providing direct patient care consistent with licensing, coordinating medical referrals, monitoring, and tracking referral activities, and assisting medical clinic professionals with Infection Control/Employee Health Nurse activities and administrative support tasks.  Work is performed under general supervision.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:(A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).

  •  Assists Clinic providers with health maintenance activities to carry out medical orders.
  •  Schedules and coordinates outside appointments for consultations, testing, and treatment with units and community providers; and ensures follow-up orders are received.
  •  Assists Infection Control and Employee Health Nurse with delegated duties that are within the scope of practice.
  •  Perform EKGs as needed and send to NECA. When DDPC receives the interpretation the MHW IV will have medical clinic provider review, initial and date-- then bring to the unit for filing. 
  • Supervises and trains staff on performing EKGs.
  •  Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure of individuals to assist in monitoring vital signs.
  •  Maintains competency for CLIA waiver license (blood glucose testing).
  •  Assure that any SBARS for the medical clinic are given to the medical clinic provider. 
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor’s Office to assure medical clinic coverage in absence of RN.
  • Assure that units are aware of appointment dates and that appointment paperwork is completed.
  • Assure that units are aware of any changes or coverage with medical provider coverage. 
  • Follow up on any outside appointments or consults to assure that the medical clinic and units receive the recommendations (F/U report).
  • Participates in performance improvement monitoring activities as assigned to support continuous quality improvement efforts of the clinic.
  •  Completes reports, spreadsheets, orders supplies, and completes patient charts to complete administrative functions.
  •  Assigns, directs, schedules, and trains subordinate mental health workers.
  •  Surveys existing services, identifies unmet service needs, and gathers and compiles data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, or related field -OR- four (4) years progressively responsible experience in an institution or community based mental health/developmental disabilities program.

Preference will be given to those with an active Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
