At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences.
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Engineer with experience in driving development of novel manufacturing processes from concept to pilot-production to deliver reliable, high performance hardware prototypes. The development of state-of-the-art prototypes will require the intersection of novel materials, manufacturing processes, mechanical, electrical, and software fields. The successful candidate will possess experience with a wide variety of manufacturing processes and be comfortable driving a team of engineers to rapidly develop and scale novel wearable devices from low to high volumes. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities
Lead Manufacturing Engineering team and development activities in a cross-functional work environment to deliver reliable, high performance hardware prototypes
Provide DFx feedback to research scientists and engineers to improve the manufacturing feasibility of novel technologies
Scale state-of-the-art hardware components and prototypes from concept to pilot-production volumes
Grow in-house manufacturing capabilities and manage external manufacturing partnerships
Raise the bar for manufacturing excellence and best practices by developing, and continuously improving, processes and relationships which empower researchers and design engineers to build increasingly complex systems
Minimum Qualifications
BS/MS degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent work experience
10+ years of experience scaling devices to pilot-production or mass manufacture, and implementing quality control procedures to resolve processing problems
5+ years of experience developing high-volume consumer products with stringent SWAP-C constraints in wearables, mobile devices, or similar
Experience designing or manufacturing electromechanical components (e.g., haptic or sensing technologies (pressure, touch, optical)) for cost effective integration in a device
Experience designing and implementing process development plans, design of experiments(DOE), establishing critical process parameters and quality control strategies
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years working on high-volume consumer products
Experience with design and/or production of wearable devices
Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing techniques, such as electro-mechanical integration, coatings, soft goods cutting, laminating, active optical alignment, casting, molding, machining, additive manufacturing, and adhesive bonding
Experience with CAD, such as SolidWorks or related programs
