Job Description

To provide measurement science to generate and improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products via improved understanding, and to support manufacturing processes and projects to meet Business targets. To utilise lab or plant information efficiently to identify improvements and to implement change using the principles and procedures for good change management. Other responsibilities include;

  • Managing activities in compliance with site, company and regulatory requirements, e.g. QOPs, COPs, SOI’s, HSE policy and standards, COMAH (Health and Safety Executive), PPC (SEPA) etc. Use knowledge and experience to improve ways of working safely in conjunction with Dept Safety Leadership.
  • Planning, controlling & conducting non-routine chemical & physical analysis, analytical development work and process analytical technology projects to support process development & manufacture of new and existing processes to meet targets on quality, cost, operability, productivity and HSE impact.
  • Proactively advising and providing laboratory expertise in Process Analytical Chemistry to PTAI, Global teams and Site project teams to permit formulation and execution of development plans to meet strategic goals under the guidance of the Specialist Team Leader.
  • Communicating with other functions; QCESG, manufacturing, PTAI, PSG, Global Analytical, Global PAT and HSE to assist in the direction and monitoring of development and manufacturing support work.
  • Assisting resolution of manufacturing process problems to permit restoration of satisfactory process operation and continued improvement of production performance.
  • Ensuring project data and information is stored in an electronic format and prepare technical reports and memoranda to record and disseminate the results of experimental programmes and laboratory work programmes.
  • Developing, training and coaching subordinates to improve their performance and achieve higher professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Chemistry: Educated to at least Honours Degree standard, possibly PhD, Or to HNC or HND level with >10 years of relevant experience.
  • HS&E: Knowledge of systems and QA procedures and responsibility for compliance.   
  • Supply Chain and financial awareness: some knowledge of costing systems and of the impact of PTAI development work on Supply Chain performance.
  • Awareness of the competitive position with respect to the areas of responsibility including some knowledge and possibly contact with external academics in own science area.
  • Substantial experience and knowledge of analytical techniques, analytical chemistry, critical data analysis (statistics / experimental design), method development, calibration & modelling, validation, technical transfer and manufacturing support.
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of laboratory work.
  • Substantial experience in manufacturing support activities including process monitoring, data analysis and information extraction with a track record of problem resolution and process improvement implementation.
