Job Description
Do you excel in the laboratory environment, fueled by a passion for scientific exploration and the refinement of processes? Syngenta, a global leader in sustainable agricultural solutions, is seeking a Process Chemist to bolster our active ingredient manufacturing team at our Huddersfield manufacturing site.
Your Role
As a Process Development Chemist, you will be instrumental in interpreting plant data and executing laboratory work to support the manufacture of active ingredients. Your expertise will be crucial in defining chemical process envelopes, enhancing process understanding, and elevating key performance indicators such as cost efficiency, capacity, and sustainability. You will spearhead improvement projects, guiding them from conception through laboratory phases to full-scale implementation. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to);
- Design and perform chemical process development experiments for new and existing processes, targeting advancements in quality, cost, operability, productivity, and HSE impact.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analytical, process engineering, formulation, manufacturing, and HSE, to facilitate progress and innovation.
- Meticulously document all research and findings in lab notebooks, reports, and presentations.
- Ensure all activities adhere to site, company, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications and required experience
- Either a PhD in Chemistry or a Master’s degree in Chemistry (if educated to MSc, work experience is required)
- Excellent laboratory and analytical skills, with a knack for designing experimental and analytical methodologies.
- Proficient in literature searches and utilising library and information systems.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing deviations and challenges.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, capable of managing tasks with foresight beyond two weeks.
- Effective communicator, adept at delivering information concisely through various methods.
- A team player who excels in a cross-functional environment, contributing essential insights.
Desirable Expertise
- Familiarity with digital chemistry, including automation and coding.
- Competence in statistical analysis for process data interpretation.
- Proven experience in process development and optimisation, with application to full-scale manufacturing.
