This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Graduate Data Acquisition Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the Plasma Control and Sensors Unit, collaborating with scientists and engineers across the organisation on to support the data acquisition systems used on MAST-U and software development for diagnostics. 

This role involves contributing to a wide variety of software development projects, data acquisition hardware design and development under the supervision of more experienced members of the team. Projects and activities will be structured to build up the experience and knowledge needed while considering organisational needs and the individual’s career.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve software for diagnostic control and data acquisition.
  • Develop and improve network-based data acquisition systems.
  • Interact and support the development of data servers and processing systems.
  • Work with scientists and engineers to understand their data acquisition and control requirements.
  • Provide help and support to scientists and engineers that use the group’s systems.
  • Research and evaluate the applicability of new technologies for the team.
  • Implement and support software and data infrastructure activities within the Plasma Control and Sensors Unit

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in relevant subject such as computer science,  information technology, maths, physics, engineering or similar (obtained from a UK university in the last 2 years).
  • Knowledge of developing working, understandable software in more than one programming language
  • An understanding of using the Linux operating systems and the command line.

To be considered you will need to have successfully completed your degree within the past 2 years at a UK university, and will possess a relevant degree from within the specialisms listed.

You will need to be self motivated, demonstrate the ability to work well with others, and have an interest in the development of a cleaner energy. Additionally, you will be passionate about self-development and you should have a proactive approach to your work with an enthusiasm to achieving your full potential.
