General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and weapon systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.
Job Description
The Junior Buyer will support Air and Naval bids manufacturing and development activities to provide sourcing and pricing for electronic and mechanical components. Working closely with the supply chain team the Junior Buyer will provide sourcing and pricing for electronic and mechanical components.
The role will support commodity procurement and development programmes, supplier negotiation cost down and supporting general programmes procurement requirements in achieving value for money to our customers.
Typical day to day activities include:
- Assisting in sourcing and pricing electrical and mechanical items to provide best price, to the right specification and time scales.
- Raising of purchase orders and ensuring adherence to delivery date
- Raising purchase orders and purchase requisitions within Oracle ERP system in accordance with suggested orders
- Expediting outstanding Purchase Orders

Qualifications
Required qualifications for this role include:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
- An understanding of procurement activities
- Good reporting skills
- Working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft packages
- Good analytical skills
- Good negotiation skills
- Purchasing/Buyer experience is preferred, ideally in electronic and mechanical component procurement
- CIPS Qualification desirable
Additional Information
The starting salary for this position is between £27,000 and £30,000 plus our flexible benefits.
This role is based at our Hastings site with flexibility to work from home several days a week. (ideally 3 days in office per week)
