Job Description
User research at Stepstone
Find the right job for everyone – Our mission reflects how a focus on our users has been part of our DNA for more than a decade. Our User Research organisation has evolved over this time, growing to a team of 13 mixed-method researchers and is part of a wider UX community including a Product Design team of 30+ designers including product design, design operations, design system & service design roles.
Within the user research organisation, we have researchers as individual contributors at all levels starting from junior up to principal, and therefore you will always have support pushing for strategic initiatives across the business.
We are spread across both the B2C and B2B sides of the business, providing an end-to-end experience, for both candidates and recruiters alike.
The Role
This is a role for our B2C area of the business. We are looking for an exceptional & collaborative Senior User Researcher who will play a key role in the product development process, by generating insights that will drive product decisions & deepen our understanding of our users’ needs, behaviours and motivations. With an innovative spirit and deep research expertise, you will help teams re-imagine and redefine an experience which has shaped an entire industry.
- This is an IC role within the user research team, working with the B2C side of the organization
- You will lead end-to-end research studies to redefine how we think and what we believe about the job seeker journey, while partnering with colleagues in other product areas to triangulate insights and tell a compelling, data-rich story
- You will help define the strategy for your product area by advocating for user needs and user-centred outcomes, leveraging existing research insights balanced with business and resource considerations
- You will actively contribute to uplifting the research practice, using your research experience to educate non-researchers within your teams on how to conduct robust user research
Day to day
- You will report to the B2C Research Manager
- Help your stakeholders identify and prioritize research requirements, define a research strategy based on priorities and business goals, and create a research roadmap together with the Lead and/or Principal Researcher and Research Manager, aligned with product OKRs
- Generate research insights that shape how product teams think about medium and long-term product strategy
- Scoping and estimating realistic timelines for research studies, ensuring milestone dates are committed and achieved
- Consult and collaborate cross-functionally, fostering relationships with key partners at all levels across the company (product design, product management, engineering, data and analytics, brand and other areas of the business)
- Take a contributing role in the development of our working practices and processes, ensuring a well-organized approach to research which helps the team to become even more efficient and effective
- Be seen as a role model for more junior researchers on how you work, executing with a high level of quality, excellence and attention to detail, both in your planning and delivery
- Proactively coach & guide more junior researchers and designers to foster a culture of excellence and growth, within both the research team and the wider research practice
Qualifications
Ideal candidate
- You will have solid, demonstrable knowledge and experience with qualitative and quantitative user research methods
- You are fluent in both German and English, confident in both languages when moderating user interviews and demonstrating an excellent attention to detail in your written communication
- Track record of craft excellence, and the ability to connect user needs and insights from your research with product strategy
- Track record of ensuring that user feedback and insights are integrated into product decisions
- Flexibly adapt research approaches and methods in a pragmatic way, and pivot if necessary
- Extraordinary storyteller, able to bring your immediate team on the full journey as well as your senior stakeholders
- Strong team player who is highly skilled in stakeholder management, aligning with various stakeholders with different roles and background, and presenting to different audiences
- Ability to work in a complex environment with a high volume of ongoing initiatives
- Bachelor's/master's degree in human factors, ergonomics, cognitive psychology, behavioural economics, HCI, anthropology, design or a comparable field
